Our client is one of the UK's leading advisory firms and they are growing their service offerings for risk management, governance and internal audit for the insurance and financial service industries specifically in relation to overseas and wholesale banks, asset managers and investment brokers., About The governance, risk and assurance department is an area of the firm with tremendous growth potential. It provides services relating to internal audit, internal control review, advisory projects and risk management. Their services deliver added value to clients through the use of modern risk management and audit techniques focusing on strategic, management and operational issues as well as financial. They are growing their service offerings for risk management, governance and internal audit for the insurance and financial service industries, covering: IA outsource/ co-source; Advisory services on the design/ development of a high quality IA function and external quality assurance reviews on the effectiveness of internal audit, specifically for compliance with the CIIA Guidance for IA in financial services; Advice and assurance on risk management frameworks, systems and processes; Advice and assurance on governance frameworks and Board effectiveness; and Ad-hoc advisory and assurance offerings relating to industry issues, risks and challenges. They view financial services as a growth area, specifically in relation to overseas and wholesale banks, asset managers and investment brokers. Job The role is to support the growth of our services to the financial services (FS) sector, through: Leadership to IA outsource and co-source services to FS sector clients, demonstrating a commitment to quality and delivery and strong industry and technical knowledge and experience in client and team interactions; Supporting the Partner in growing GRA services to the FS sector, through business development, marketing initiatives, supporting tender document preparation and proposals and leveraging both internal and external opportunities to maximise fee income; Contribute to a collaborative working model with colleagues from across the wider GRA team and FS sector service lines to optimise: (i) the quality of our work; and (ii) opportunities for growth and business development; and To coach and mentor more junior managers and staff, aligning to a strong team-working ethos as GRA continues to grow. The role may also include such services to the broader financial services sector such as insurance, on an ad-hoc basis as and when the need arises. Responsibilities Service delivery Responsible for the leadership of a portfolio of IA outsourced and co-sourced clients as the GRA FS sector services grows, including: (i) managing the development and delivery of a risk based annual IA plan; and (ii) ensuring IA delivery is to high standards, in terms of meeting quality, budget and timeline standards and resolving client queries without direct supervision from the partners where appropriate; and (iii) building and maintaining client relationships and using these to identify co-sourced IA needs and working collaboratively with other services lines where needed to deliver co-sourced IA; Developing effective client relationships, demonstrating impact and influence in communicating audit findings and effective ongoing communication with key client stakeholders on audit timings and key issues and risks facing clients. Managing resources from a pool of GRA staff and integration of wider subject matter experts to support the delivery of IA reviews, including the allocation of work to these team members and providing coaching and performance management for such staff members. Ensure a good understanding of FS regulatory developments and industry issues, to contribute to risk based planning assessments and to ensure relevance and value is derived from assurance work. Responsible for controlling engagement costs and recovery against scale rates and ensuring strong management of lock-up, through time budgeting, agreeing fees with clients in advance, timely billing and early identification and discussion of potential overruns. Lead the delivery of a range of ad-hoc advisory and assurance assignments in addition to IA services. Business development Support the marketing plan for GRA services to the FS sector. Build and maintain inter-service line relationships across the FS sector and leverage client relationships and network to support the growth of the wider FS sector. Specialise in marketing a particular area(s) of expertise, developing niche markets/ growing and developing the client portfolio. Support tender and proposal document preparation and presentation for new work opportunities. Support the partner in delivering and implementing marketing initiatives in line with the GRA FS marketing plan, including: (i) creation and publishing thought leadership articles; (ii) attending and presenting at industry events and for a; (iii) development of technical training and roundtable discussions for potential and existing clients. Produce brief quarterly update report, confirming business development initiatives / activities. Lead the delivery of new GRA service propositions and/ or evolution of existing services, to maintain or build competitive advantage, including the marketing of these new services. Staff management and direction Provide support to senior managers to ensure they get the most out of their teams. Responsible for line management of a number of other members of staff, including setting objectives and career/ personal development, monitoring performance against role profile and managing the appraisal process for these individuals. Plan and control the allocation of staff within your team with a view to maximising overall recovery rates and minimising risk. Ensure that all members of the team fully understand their roles and any developments that affect them. Deal confidently with confrontational situations and support team members when they face such situations. Support the partner in the development of resource needs and the resourcing model to support the growth of GRA FS and support the interview process for staff in accordance with the firm's guidelines. Operating with an open mind: challenging working practices and exploring ways to enhance value to clients. Assisting in the challenge and assessment of management's remediation plans for issues arising from internal audit reviews. Personal and professional qualities You should be able to demonstrate technical and thought leadership in your area(s) of specialism and be considered to be a subject matter expert and the last point of issue escalation and resolution before Partner. You will lead business development of GRA services in the FS sector, to drive marketing, the development of thought leadership articles and proposal documentation and have successful networks, both internally and externally, to drive new business opportunities. You will manage and lead teams and/ or departments with responsibility for meeting budget requirements and have significant influence in making people, budget and process decisions. The role requires: Either (i) qualified accountant with a number of years' experience post qualification in public practice or internal audit with an FS regulated firm; or (ii) qualified internal auditor with a number of years' experience post qualification in internal audit, either in public practice or in industry. Demonstrable specialist technical knowledge of GRA (specifically internal audit) services. Demonstrable experience and depth in knowledge of FS obtained through working in internal audit/ risk in industry or public practice. Recognised as a technical expert in internal audit methodologies and approaches and in risk management/ governance frameworks applicable to the FS sector. Demonstrable skills and expertise in business development, including thought leadership articles, sales presentations and networking. People management skills (proven experience of coaching and developing staff). Excellent communication and presentation skills and demonstration of impact and influence with senior members of a client's executive management. Strong organisational and time management skills. Able to work under pressure with accuracy and focus. Able to demonstrate problem solving skills. Keen to add value to our clients' businesses.
